VIRGINIA, United States — The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts is accepting applications for its summer 2027 residency period, with a deadline of 15 September 2026.
Applicants can use one residency application to be considered for several fully funded fellowships for which they qualify.
The listed opportunities include the SSG & AC Edwards Fellowship, a two-week residency giving preference to Native American artists or women. Other fellowships support Latinx writers and first-time residents from historically excluded communities.
VCCA hosts writers, visual artists and composers at Mt. San Angelo in Amherst, Virginia. A residency can provide uninterrupted working time, accommodation and a community of other artists.
“Fully funded” should be interpreted according to the terms of the individual fellowship. Applicants should verify whether travel, meals, materials and other expenses are covered and whether an application fee remains payable.
Artists should review accessibility information before applying. Rural or historic residency sites may present challenges for people with mobility needs, chronic illness or caregiving responsibilities.
A strong application normally includes a carefully selected work sample and a concise description of the project. Applicants should follow discipline-specific file requirements rather than submitting a broad career archive.
International applicants should confirm visa eligibility, tax treatment and whether the residency can provide supporting documentation. A fellowship does not automatically guarantee permission to enter the United States.
Women applying through preference-based fellowships should not assume selection is automatic. Artistic quality and the programme’s broader criteria still apply.
